The Bloodrune Saga RECAP
Hey hopeless romantics and berserkers, now that The Bloodrune Saga trilogy is officially COMPLETE, PUBLISHED, OUT IN THE WORLD, I wanted to give a recap of the first two books for anyone looking to catch up on the series.

Book 3: Home of the Fallen, released October 15th, just three days before this post. (yeah, yeah, I wanted to get this post out the day BEFORE release, but family life didn't allow that to happen. Work/life balance and all that jazz, yk?)
The third and final book is the epic ending, the heartbreaker, the hard-won happily ever after, the answer to every mystery presented in the series, the wrap-up for every single character (except those who will receive their OWN spin-off books; this is just the beginning...)
Welcome to THE END, my friends.
Or is it?

Before we go any further, I want to whack you over the head with this reminder: THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE GIANT INSANE SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST TWO BOOKS OF THE BLOODRUNE SAGA - VOW OF THE UNDEAD AND WRATH OF THE RUINED. DO NOT read past this if you haven't read the first two books...
Whew! Okay, now that I screamed in your face and threatened you like a Viking warrior (hey, a girl can dream about being a shield maiden, okay??)

Let's talk VOW OF THE UNDEAD.
RECAP:
So WTF happened in Book 1? Some wild mystery with a gothic vibe, a lot of anxiety and panic attacks for our poor "Silver"...
Quick overview:
"Silver" finds out that her beloved mother (an illegal witch) is sentenced to cross Drukna Sea in exploration for more people to increase Vylheim's population.
As a witch herself, Silver believes in the gods, Odin and Freya and Loki and worships them. Which is also illegal (no wonder our girl is so anxious).
Silver receives visions from the gods encouraging her to go to Vylheim's castle and meet the king.
Good thing her asshole father traded her off to be married, which will get her to the exact place she needs to go... Fate is pretty cool when the gods help, huh?
The bitch goes, and OF COURSE THE KING IS HOT AF.
Buuuut he's also a vampire. A creature Silver thought only existed in the sagas, perhaps in another one of the nine realms or just a long, long time ago.
King Drakkar is cruel and evil and psychotic (kind of), and has all kinds of secrets of his own as he seeks to claim Silver as his wife.
Being a vague little asshole, he only tells her JUST ENOUGH to keep her curious.
BUT ALSO, he's kind of loving and sweet and maybe a little too controlling, but this big bad sexy AF vampire king is ALSO the only person in the entire nine fucking realms who always tells Silver the truth.
And the truth is the most important commodity in Vylheim.
So Silver is kinda wink wink toward King Drakkar now...
OH, AND he's the only person who has ever acknowledged her invisible disability. Not only does he insist she rest. He also helps keep her blue fingers warm and helps her work through her anxiety.
But there's also this other dude who seems so kind and helpful and also worships the gods she worships (yeah, he's a vamp too, but he's a GOOD vamp...or so he says...). Kayn teaches her how to hunt his kind, knowing she'll have to kill him someday too. "Awwww SO noble," right?
ANYWAY, THE WHOLE TIME, our anxious little BB Silver is lying to herself and basically everyone around her, except the mysterious vampire who stalks her INSISTS she follow exactly what the gods are telling her to do: KILL ALL THE VAMPIRES. Which Odin claims she can do easily because she has so much self-awareness because of her chronic illness and anxiety that she'll be able to handle the powers the gods grant her to go hunt these bloodthirsty bitches.
So she plans to. She walks down the aisle with a stake strapped to her leg, BUT THEN THE VAMPIRE VIKING KING (Drak ofc), tells her to run...
Someone is here.
HER SISTER. No, not just her sister. HER TWIN SISTER NAMED SILVER.
Yep, our anxiety-riddled, heart-failure rep FMC is a liar, liar, pants on fire (skirt? Dress on fire?)
BITCH LIED TO EVERYONE.
Her name is actually Lux, her sister was kidnapped in her stead and has now broken out of the castle's dungeons over a decade later.
Not only does the real Silver want to murder her sister; she wants to make ALL OF VYLHEIM PAY FOR HER SUFFERING.
Cue the chaos.
Drak lets Lux run away with the mysterious other vampire to save Lux's life, while the real Silver fucks shit up in the court.
Lux goes on the run. Drak ends up forcing Silver out, but Silver wants revenge...
We end on a stupid-ass cliffhanger where the 'other' vampire, and Lux's mother, and best friend, are taken as hostages by Silver and her lil' army of vamps.
SO LUX is now in forced proximity with Drak, showing up on his doorstep all wet (you know what I mean, you dirty-minded spice-lover) begging for his help to get her loved ones back from Silver...

Alright, now that we're all pissed off about THAT ending, let's move on to (drumroll please!) Wrath of the Ruined!
RECAP:
Lux is now a badass vampire hunter after having practiced and finally made a real kill at the end of Vow of the Undead.
But she's stuck with Drak until he takes her to Yggdrasil, to stop her sister from burning the tree that connects Lux to the gods, giving her their powers.
I mean, bitch NEEDS these powers in order to kill the vampires, and she has to kill the vampires to stop her sister and save her loved ones, so right now, it's all about saving Yggdrasil...
ALL THE WHILE, we now have Drak's POV, and something weird is happening.
He's kind of obsessed with Lux and doesn't know why.
Dude wants nothing but power and a certain type of revenge on the vampires and gods as well, EXCEPT NOW, he kind of wants the sexy lil' vampire huntress instead...
So he agony wanks it out and then gets a weird flashback while he's putting himself over the edge.
ANYWAY, he convinces Lux to fake marry him to lure Silver to the castle, tricking their common enemy into believing that Lux has bound herself to a vampire and effectively given up her vampire-hunting powers.
Silver falls for it because she's a desperate bitch.
But ends up mostly winning the battle, even if she and her army have to flee at the end of this fight...
Oh, also, when they consummated their fake marriage, Lux maybe remembered something about loving Drak once a long time ago? WHAT? WTF?? yeah... anyway...
FINALLY, the masks are ready to enter the wasteland, and the luring didn't exactly work (Silver got away), so Drak agrees to take Lux to Yggdrasil where he hopes to find and slay a god in order to become a god.
But dude is now head-over-heels for Lux as he gets more and more flashbacks.
On their journey, he pines, he yearns, and he learns that they've been married before, and in love, in another lifetime.
In fact, they REINCARNATED with the sole purpose of finding each other again after Odin and Freya separated them when Drak died on a battlefield many years ago, but Lux doesn't remember any of it - the gods are too loud as they scream at her to kill the vampires.
Poor Drak is now fully obsessed, and Lux doesn't believe him even if it's obvious she's falling for him, too.
KAYN escapes Silver, tries to tell Lux to kill all the vampires even if it means risking her mom and best friend's lives. Lux gets pissed, and what Kayn confesses finally helps Lux realize Drak has been telling the truth all along...
Still in denial, tho, annoying-ass Lux focuses on getting to Yggdrasil.
Drak almost dies.
She thinks she loves him.
Meets a Valkyrie.
It's a whole thing.
Then, they get to Yggdrasil and find out that Kayn beat them there and sacrificed his body for Odin to come down into Midgard...
Great.
Now, they gotta fight a god.
It's Drak's dream, though, remember? He wanted nothing more than to become a god after the gods destroyed his mother's mind, so that he could wreak havoc on them all...
But when it comes down to it, he tells Lux to kill Odin so she can be free of the gods. As a god herself, the gods can no longer infiltrate her mind.
But how the crazy battle choreography all plays out means that killing Odin is also killing Drak...
Lux is sobbing, but she does it.
Then, she learns as a god, she can restore Drak's soul from before he was a vampire.
Bitch goes back with Silver where her evil sister now reigns in Vylheim.
Evil sister sends her off across the sea (remember the exploration efforts the court intended from book 1? Yeah, Silver reinstated that plan).
But while out at sea, Lux finds a shard of Drak's soul.
Hope is restored, and all she wants is to bring back the man she fell in love with... in this lifetime, and several lifetimes before...
She's officially obsessed with him too, and now SHE's the 'touch him and die' trope.

THIS BRINGS US TO BOOK 3: Home of the Fallen
No spoilers for this one. You just have to read it because I have a lot more twists coming.
But I DID promise you a happily ever after... so no worries. Drak and Lux will get exactly what they deserve...

NAHHHH, I'm just fucking with you. Lux and Drak really DO get a happily ever after. Many, in fact....
just read it and you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, lovelies, I'll see ya in the spin-offs.
They're coming.
