What I'm working on now

Why a fae romantasy inspired by Phantom of the Opera? WHY?

So I can call it Fae-tom of the Opera.

KIDDING.

This standalone romantasy already has a title:

In tune with my other romantasy, BGB has a very dark/gothic atmosphere, vampires and fae and Valkyries in a Viking world, AND most importantly; chronic illness/disability rep.

She’s a hard-of-hearing dancer for the king.

He’s her bodyguard in a bear’s mask.

Touching her is forbidden.

Removing his mask is forbidden.

But he does. Only for her. So that she can read his lips…

As a big fan of forbidden romance (check out my earlier blog titled  " Behind the Scenes of The Bloodrune Saga “ to find out why this is so personal to me),I wanted to write another one, but make them a sweeter, softer couple this time and give a snippet into the history of Vylheim from The Bloodrune Saga.

While, BGB is a standalone, it interconnects with The Bloodrune Saga through the world, the history, the lore, and YES, even though this is set 300 years before the trilogy, you WILL see familiar/favorite characters crossover into BGB. (I mean, they’re vampires and fae and Valkyries and gods - did you expect any less?)

The Bloodrune Saga served as an epic, intense, dark fantasy with deconstruction of religion, wars, and DOWN WITH THE GODS vibes, so I’m pivoting with Blood Guardian Beloved and zooming all the way in. Instead of wars and saving the world, this story gives a close-up into the quieter, personal lives of two characters forbidden to be together.

Viggo is a tortured fae MMC and Lottie is the soft, sweet FMC he’s taken an oath to protect for the ancient vampire king.

So how the hell is this anything like Phantom of the Opera?

She’s a dancer at the court.

He’s the disfigured man in the mask - the one everyone calls a monster.

The similarities are in the details, the characters, their individual arcs and backstories, and the story’s arc.

Here’s a quick pitch to get the gist:

Lottie has dedicated her whole life to becoming a courtly entertainer. But when her father’s sentenced to death for theft, her chance to audition at the court becomes her only chance to save him. Seduce the king, stop her father’s execution, and don’t get distracted by the masked man following her every move.

So if you love the following tropes, consider securing your pre-order for Blood Guardian Beloved now!

-Forbidden romance

-Princess/knight trope

-Painful yearning

-A raven animal companion

-”I hate how much I want you”

-He washes her hair
